A new Quinnipiac Poll shows the economy is the most important issue in deciding who to vote for president.

This is not surprising in light of the higher prices Americans have been forced to pay over the last few years.shows that from January 2020 to June 2024, prices increased by 21.8%, and the costs of certain goods and services rose even more. The cost of margarine has risen the most at 56.8%. Motor vehicle repair and insurance, eggs, sugar, beef, and veal are up more than 39% since January 2020.
On the flip side, the price of smartphones has fallen by more than 53%. Televisions, men's suits, and health insurance are cheaper than before the COVID-19 pandemic too. If prices were to go down that would be called deflation. Deflation is when the inflation rate is negative. It sounds good, but some experts warn it would hurt the economy.deflation can hurt economic growth. If someone's house goes down in value, they would make less profit and have less money to pay off debt.
