The influx of migrants and asylum seekers at the southern border is causing budget stress for some of the nation’s largestfrom the Common Sense Institute found that the costs – which include things like food, clothing, shelter and healthcare – are estimated to be between $216 million and $340 million since December of 2022.
Breaking down the numbers, Denver has spent more than $70 million on support services including food, transportation and housing; nearly $50 million on emergency department care and between $98 million and $222 million on education.in FY 2023, mainly on housing and food for nearly 100,000 migrants. The city expects to spend more than $12 billion through 2024, according to the government website.
