Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt just signed a bill into law requiring cursive handwriting to be taught in schools.

Writing things by hand can seem old school and some say it is not taken as seriously as it once was.by OnePoll found that 45% of Americans struggle to read their own handwriting, while 70% report having trouble reading notes or documents from their coworkers. However, it is still a part of daily life, as 86% of adults still write things down – like shopping lists or notes – to stay organized.

Meanwhile, studies have shown IQ scores have dropped because technology shortens attention spans and decreases the need to think deeply., almost every state adopted the Common Core State Standards, which are the federal government’s curriculum guidelines, though they did not include cursive.

Meanwhile, more than half of states – like Alaska, Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada – do not require it, but most that do not still allow schools to teach it if they want to.
