Be careful when leaving your suitcase open while you're on holiday 😳🦂
A family were left in shock after bringing home a rather unexpected souvenir after an exotic holiday.
The relatives had returned from a trip to Costa Rica some 10 days previously before they found a scorpion in their kitchen. It turned out the arachnid had snuck into one of the suitcases in the central American country, where they are common.And somehow it managed to stay undetected for a week and a half in the family home in Winchester, Hampshire – some 5,200 miles away from Costa Rica.Scorpions may sting humans if they feel threatened, but they are unlikely to cause harm aside from discomfort and pain.
Only 25 species have venom which is deadly to humans, which can cause high blood pressure. Some 2,600 people die a year worldwide from scorpion stings.An RSPCA spokesperson said: ‘This scorpion departed from Costa Rica and arrived at a house in Winchester.‘He’s now safe and in expert care.’ One animal lover urged travellers to check their belongings for hidden animals when they pack to come home from their holiday.
