Kameron Turner's family said he always spent time hanging out at Ryder Park.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Family and friends of 13-year-oldKameron was hit by a car while walking to school earlier in April and later died from his injuries.
Before and after school, loved ones said Kameron could be found at Ryder Park almost every day. They said he was always playing basketball with his older brother, Jaiyon Halie. "Even though it's a double rim, he never really like playing with double rims but he got used to it," Halie smiled. On April 3, as Kameron and his brother were walking to school, the 13-year-old was hit by a car at the intersection of Kings Road and Division Street. The incident is a short walk from Ryder Park.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said the two were not at a crosswalk when the accident happened. Kameron died five days later and authorities said the driver was not charged. However, the older brother said he is focusing more on the good memories he has of his brother, despite the grief he's experiencing.
To Kameron's peers, he was described as nice, smart, someone who always did his work and an overall 'good kid'. Kameron's family said his heart will be donated to another child in need.
