SUNDAY MAIL EXCLUSIVE: Calum Simpson's mum and partner said seeing murderer Cameron Allan walking free during the trial, two years after his death, was difficult.
The family of a young dad who was raped and murdered just days after the birth of his daughter have questioned why one of his killers could roam free for more than two years.
“The fact that they were out in the community and able to do this...I don’t understand. That one of them wasn’t even locked up when the trial was taking place was awful.Bobbie Cowan, 26, the mother of Calum’s three children, said: “The one that was out - that got to me over the last few years.“He was able to come and go from the court because he was on bail and that was really tough.
On February 16, 2022, he horrified a female hotel worker in Dunfermline, where he lived, by asking if she wanted to take part in a porn film he was going to make with another man. He’s at the centre of a police complaint over a man fitting his description who was pictured holding a sign that said he wanted to “decapitate terfs” along with a picture of a guillotine.
The MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife said: “Within a very short time after reporting this protester to police, people contacted me and said it was a guy called Cameron Allan who is known to police.“Subsequently the police said they hadn’t been able to identify the individual in the photograph. “The fact it’s an individual already out on bail pending a horrific murder charge, you have to ask what on earth were the police up to that they weren’t taking immediate and serious action against this individual.
Advocate depute Angela Gray told Edinburgh High Court on Friday: “They drugged him for their sexual gratification. That drugging was wickedly reckless to the consequences and in so doing they had a complete disregard for the safety and the life of Calum Simpson.”
