The devastated family of Maureen Gitau described her as a"beautiful, loving and caring soul."THE FAMILY of a woman who has been missing for over a month, say they are “broken” to hear a man has been charged with her murder.She was last seen five days earlier, on 5 December, as she left her home in Evelyn Street, Deptford, Lewisham.Ms Gitau’s body has not been found.page, Ms Gitau’s family said: “We received the tragic news on 03 January 2023 that our daughter has been murdered.
“We pray God grants us peace and comforts us during this time. Please keep our family in your prayers.” The family urged the public to donate to the fundraiser to help in their fight for justice for Maureen. They continued: “Any donation will go towards court justice, funeral costs and to give her the best send off.“Thank you for your continued support and may God bless you.”
As concerns grew for Ms Gitau’s wellbeing, detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command took responsibility of the investigation.On Thursday, 5 January, he appeared at the Old Bailey via video-link from HMP Thameside charged with murdering Ms Gitau.Detectives are asking anyone who knew Maureen and who saw her on Monday, 5 December in the Deptford area, or anyone who believes they have information that could assist with the investigation, to call 101.
