The Olentangy community is remembering a student who died by suicide. Braden Markus would be graduating high school this weekend. But he took his own life after falling victim to sextortion.
Tears filled with love, determination, and perseverance were shared between Braden's mom, Jennifer, and his sister, Ella, in an emotional hug. If passed, the bill would make sextortion a felony crime in Ohio of the first, second, or third degree with extended prison time. "Braden's story is a tragedy that is not just here in Olentangy; it's all across the state right now. Somewhere in the state, a teen is being targeted by an online predator, and we need to pass Braden's Law as fast as possible, but there is a full list of things that we need to do to protect kids and hold these digital platforms accountable," Ohio Lt. Governor Jon Husted said.
