Family of tot born with serious heart defects gather hundreds of toys for kids in hospital at Christmas
The family of a brave tot who underwent open-heart surgery after a routine baby check found serious defects are now organising a Christmas toy drive for the Scots hospital where he was treated.
Initially, doctors suspected he could have had a heart murmur and admitted him for further checks. But, after he began refusing food and started losing weight, he was blue-lighted to the neonatal ICU unit with mum Collette, 32, and dad Scott, 37, by his side. Ajay spent a gruelling eight and a half hours in theatre as medics operated on his heart, as worried mum and dad waited outside.
The family return to the hospital and drop off donated presents to ensure others spending Christmas at the hospital will have as magical time as possible. Although Ajay is doing great following the scare earlier this year, he will require more surgery as he grows.
