A family in Scotland is devastated after a nurse who killed their mother while driving in the wrong lane received a home curfew and driving ban instead of jail time.

A Scots family has expressed outrage over what they deem a 'lenient sentence' for a nurse who killed their mother while driving in the wrong lane . Angela Hislop, 48, was found guilty of driving into the wrong lane after colliding with 72-year-old Janette Davidson's Kia Venga on November 11, 2022, near Floors Castle in the Scottish Borders.

Hislop, who had just finished a 12-and-a-half-hour nightshift at Borders General Hospital, was handed a 12-month home curfew and a driving ban for the same period, a direct alternative to jail time, at Selkirk Sheriff Court on Monday. Janette Davidson, a resident of Kelso, tragically died at the scene of the accident. The grieving family released a statement through lawyers Digby Brown, stating that the sentence 'does not reflect our pain, the value of Janette or serve a lesson to others'. They emphasized their ongoing pain and the feeling that the driver showed no remorse. The family added, 'While we do our best to cherish the positive memories we have, we cannot help but remain devastated at the loss of so many milestones we have missed with her.' They concluded by expressing their desire for peace and privacy as they move forward, thanking those who supported them during the past two years
