County council highways operatives were seen parking on double yellow lines as they attended an inquest into the death of a man killed by a pothole
Highways bosses have apologised after highways staff, whose team failed to spot a huge crack in the road which killed a much-loved dad were seen parking on double yellow lines at his inquest.
The inquest heard how the crack in Island Lane near Winmarleigh had been reported to the council's highways department four months before Harry's death. Photographs sent with that complaint showed the depth of the defect but five council employees subsequently failed to spot it when they visited the road with one even insisting it had closed up and then re-opened after his inspection.
During the inquest several county council employees, including four of the workers who had either missed the crack or said it hadn't been present on their visit, gave evidence. Harry's family was left horrified when they saw two council highways vehicles parked on double yellow lines outside the coroner's court.
