'There is someone out there who knows something,' Sequoya Carpenter said. 'Speak up so my mom can rest in peace.'

There’s someone out there who knows something," Sequoya Carpenter said. "Speak up so my mom can rest in peace."On April 17, 2021 Latoya Carpenter was caught in the crossfire, killed by a suspect who officials said opened fire into a vigil that was taking place on the city's east side.

During the vigil, an unknown suspect, who was possibly inside a dark colored Dodge Durango, drove by and opened fire. Carpenter just happened to be driving by the vigil as the shooting happened and was struck in the head. Her daughter Sequoya said she was driving behind her mom in traffic when the shooting happened, and that the events of the tragic day still replay in her mind.

It’s not about snitching. It’s just so that we can rest and we can get some justice for my sister," Maria Littlejohn said."This case has always meant a lot to the sheriff’s office, and we want to get justice for her and her family," Duffer said. "No doubt there are people out there right now who know what happened, know why the shooting occurred, but they are afraid to come forward."They can remain anonymous," Duffer said.
