What are we doing to this planet? 😡

An eight-month-old dugong who was rescued after she was found lost near a beach in Thailand has tragically died.

Director-general of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, Jatuporn Buruspat, said: ‘We assume she wandered off too far from her natural habitat and was chased, and eventually attacked by another male dugong, or dugongs, as they feel attracted to her.’For months, Marium would cuddle her rescuers, quickly earning her the title of Thailand’s sweetheart. An autopsy showed a large amount of plastic waste in her intestinal tract, which led to inflammation and gas build up.

The dugong is a species of marine mammal similar to the manatee and can grow to about 3.4 metres in length.Marium washed up several months ago and soon afterwards a second orphaned dugong was also found in the shallow waters.
