A day after Mays' death was announced during their game in Birmingham, the Montgomery Biscuits/Gray Sox paid tribute at Riverwalk Stadium.
MONTGOMERY , Ala. - The Montgomery Grey Sox played in the Negro Southern League in the 1920s and 1930s, and the Montgomery Biscuits honored that legacy by wearing different Gray Sox -themed jerseys during the week of Juneteenth , while also playing at Birmingham ’s historic Rickwood Field Tuesday night that once housed another Negro League team: the Birmingham Black Barons .
The week was made more significant in the baseball world with the death of all-time great and Alabama native Willie Mays. The shocking announcement was made during Tuesday’s game in Birmingham, and some in attendance at Wednesday’s game on Wednesday were also there for the announcement the night before
