MasterChef: The Professionals continues tonight on BBC One, with many on X saying that it should be pulled from the schedules
BBC chiefs have been urged by Labour MP Rupa Huq to "pause" episodes of MasterChef amidst an ongoing investigation into allegations against Gregg Wallace . The Commons Culture Committee member expressed her concerns that airing the programme could be "triggering" for some women who have made accusations.
However, speaking on BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Ms Huq stated: "I think possibly there is an argument for pausing while this investigation takes its course and maybe not airing it tonight." Dame Caroline Dinenage, the Tory MP and chairwoman of the Commons Culture Committee, expressed her views on the BBC's handling of the situation involving Gregg Wallace, saying: "I think the BBC should send a strong signal. We need to let the investigation do its work - but at the same time if he's been dangled on our screens when all this is going on, I just think at the moment maybe pause it.
Ulrika Jonsson added her voice to the claims against Mr Wallace on her Instagram Stories. The TV presenter and model, aged 57, alleged that another female contestant heard Wallace make a 'rape joke' on MasterChef. Although Mr Wallace has expressed his intent to "committed to fully cooperating throughout the process" during the enquiry, his attorneys have stoutly refuted any misbehaviour, stating: "it is entirely false that he engages in behaviour of a sexually harassing nature".
Thereafter, addressing the accusations, he added: "Apparently now, I'm reading in the paper, there's been 13 complaints in that time. I can see the complaints coming from a handful of middle-class women of a certain age, just from Celebrity MasterChef. This isn't right."
