For this gymnast, breaking records is practically becoming run of the mill. At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, she set an American record for the most gold medals won in women’s gymnastics at a single Games. Further to that, in snagging four gold medals in total during the Games, Biles became the first female gymnast to do so since Romania’s Ecaterina Szabo in 1984.
In November 2018, the now 22-year-old became the most decorated female gymnast in the history of the world championships after winning four golds, a silver and a bronze. With 20 medals under her belt, her record now matches Russia’s Svetlana Khokrina. But it doesn’t stop there. Biles became the first American to medal in every event, and the first woman of any nationality since Romania’s Daniela Silivas at the 1988 Olympics.
