The final episode of Gavin and Stacey aired tonight, and fans were surprised by how much Neil, the baby of Nessa and Smithy, has grown up.
It has been five years since the Gavin and Stacey families were last on our screens. In that time viewers have been left with a lot of unanswered questions and anticipation has been building up to tonight's Christmas special. Since the show first aired in 2007 characters have aged off-screen, with one of those being 'Neil the baby', who is Nessa and Smithy's child in the BBC show.
Neil is sixteen now and when he appeared on tonight's Christmas special, which is the final episode of Gavin and Stacey, fans were shocked by how old he now looks. Many viewers began reminiscing on the past still thinking of him as a baby as they did when they first watched the original series. One comment written on X, formerly known as Twitter, said: 'Wow Neil the baby is a fully grown adult.' Another commenter said: 'Neil the baby growing up has made me emotional????? #GavinAndStacey .' Other responses regarding his appearance included: 'Neil the baby making me feel absolutely ancient #GavinAndStacey ' and 'The age of Neil the baby has shook me to my core #GavinAndStacey .' Oscar Hartland has played Neil since he was a baby in Gavin and Stacey, having last appeared in the role during the 2019 Christmas special. Oscar previously opened up about being thrust into the limelight, saying: 'I grew up knowing I was Neil The Baby, but it was after the Christmas special that my life literally turned around. I went from a kid that was in a show when he was a baby to a kid in a TV – even going into the supermarket was mad.
