Ilia Gruev has found opportunities for game time hard to come by during his first month at Leeds United
Daniel Farke is happy to take the patient approach with Ilia Gruev as he continues to edge the midfielder into Leeds United action. Gruev joined the Whites on the penultimate day of the transfer window from Werder Bremen to bolster Farke’s numbers in midfield but he has found opportunities hard to come by so far.
As such, Leeds fans are yet to really get a feel for their new midfielder, who can play as a centre-back if required and spent time there during his last spell with the national team. Farke, though, is in no rush to bring Gruev into the starting line-up, particularly given the form of the three players ahead of him in the midfield pecking order.
“In terms of language, he’s quite fluent in English, it’s quite impressive, but to understand really each and every football phrase and the technical terms, it always takes a while. He’s a top player, I am pretty pleased with him. “It’s not like an urgent case, an emergency case, where we are urged to throw him too early into the mix. So I much prefer this situation that step by step he can be integrated but I know already right now whenever I need him and he’s always ready to go and he’s a top class guy, humble guy. Pretty, pretty grateful also that he works for such a great club, although he has an impressive CV for such a young guy, so with Ilia I am more than happy at the moment.
