Jim Ramsay strongly opposes the 307-hectare scheme at Duchrae near Dalry
A Glenkens hill farmer is urging local people to have their say on a controversial forestry planting scheme earmarked for moorland next to his land.
Hereford-headquartered agents Pryor and Rickett Silviculture will stage the events at Dalry Town Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday. “It is an area still used by whaups – curlews – but is under imminent threat of afforestation by yet another sitka spruce plantation at Duchrae Farm. “They will try and tell you there are not that many curlews left in the area, or they don’t use the site that much. To which you tell them that the whole point around ‘forest edge effect’ is that it destroys breeding habitat hundreds of metres in front of the forest edge – and not just the area under the forest plantation.
