For each part of the county, we've picked out the language after English which has the highest percentage of residents speaking it as a first language
Different languages can be heard across the county but in all most areas, English is the main language spoken by more than nine in 10 people. Blackburn with Darwen is one exception where English is the main language for 87.53% of people, while in Pendle it is 87.64% and Preston it's 87.62%.
Thanks to the Office for National Statistics, data from the 2021 census can now be used to see what other languages are spoken across the county. These different languages can now be visualised thanks to a set of maps produced by the ONS and using data from the 2021 chart the main spoken language in residents over three years old in every one of borough and unitary authority, as well as the percentage of residents who speak it.
