Tech billionaire Elon Musk has hit out at the Australian government over its revamped bill to tackle misinformation and disinformation online.
Elon Musk has slammed the Australian government as"fascists" over a revamped bill to tackle misinformation and disinformation which was introduced to parliament on Thursday.
Under the suggested reforms, social media companies could be fined up to five per cent of their global revenue if they fail to adequately crack down on misinformation and disinformation on their platforms.Musk, the owner of X, took to the platform late on Thursday night to repost a tweet about the proposed measures, labelling the Albanese government simply “fascists”.
“For the life of me, I can’t see how Elon Musk or anyone else, in the name of free speech, thinks it’s OK to have social media platforms publishing scam content, which is robbing Australians of billions of dollars every year. The proposed reforms have been met with much other criticism, with the Institute of Public Affairs slamming the legislation as “the single biggest attack on freedom of speech in Australia’s peacetime history”.
