At least four people have been killed by an avalanche that tore down a glacier near Mont Blanc in the French Alps. 9News
Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said nine others had been injured, and rescue efforts are ongoing.
The avalanche occurred around midday on Sunday on the Armancette glacier, which is located near the village and ski resort of Les Contamines-Montjoie.The victims were backcountry skiers, Emmanuel Coquand, spokesperson for the local authorities of Haute-Savoie, said.Coquand said the cause is being investigated and the avalanche is believed to have formed after a slab of snow broke free from the mountain.
