The Attorney General’s Office announced an investigation into a fatal crash in Sussex County on Monday that involved an on-duty police officer.
Authorities said the preliminary investigation found the crash involved an on-duty Franklin Borough police officer driving a department vehicle that hit another car around 10:41 a.m. Monday, May 27, at Route 23 and Walsh Road in Franklin. A female passenger in the car that was struck sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Morristown Medical Center where she was pronounced dead early Wednesday morning, according to officials. The man driving that car was treated for his injuries and released.No identities were released Friday and the Attorney General’s Office said the investigation is ongoing.
The Attorney General’s Office investigates all officer-involved fatalities while acting in their official capacities under a 2019 law.
