Andy also lives with Type 1 diabetes

A Northamptonshire personal trainer who is a father-of-two has spoken out about his heart condition as the British Heart Foundation awards £30 million for new research.

Andy said: “I first knew something wasn’t right when I became unwell during cycling racing in 2016. I thought it was a chest infection, then noticed my heart felt like it was skipping a beat. He added: “However, I’ve never let my heart conditions stop me from achieving what I want. Under the supervision of the team at St George’s Hospital, I was able to get back into cycling again and I achieved a second category racing licence.

It comes after an international team of researchers were announced as the winners of the British Heart Foundation’s Big Beat Challenge. Every week in the UK, 12 people under the age of 35 die of an undiagnosed heart condition. Very often, it is caused by one of these inherited heart muscle diseases - also known as genetic cardiomyopathies.
