Madrigal Pharmaceuticals' new drug has become the first drug approved by the US FDA to treat NASH, a fatty liver disease.

This is the first time the US Food and Drug Administration has approved a drug to treat obesity-linked liver disease.The liver weighs up to 1500 g and is responsible for over 500 functions including digestion, detoxification, metabolism, and vitamin storage. It has a role in almost every organ system in the body, so its health is crucial.

Madrigal Pharmaceuticals’ oral drug Resmetirom , has been shown to reduce for example scar tissue in the liver. It was not a very easy process, because many trials over the years have failed.
