Product recalls might seem scary, but they’re not always as severe as you may think. Here’s a guide to different kinds of FDA recalls and their purposes.

Just in time for barbecue season, the Food and Drug Administration has announced a potato chip recall. Limited varieties of Zapp’s and Dirty potato chips were voluntarily recalled by Utz Quality Foods, a savory snack manufacturer, after a third-party ingredient supplier said a seasoning powder could contain salmonella, an infectious bacteria.

The seasoning, a dry milk powder, was sourced from California Dairies, Inc. And although the affected chip batches tested negative for salmonella prior to distribution, Utz s initiating the recall out of an abundance of caution. At the time of publication, there have been no complaints of illness reported to Utz in connection with the recalled products, and no Utz products, other than those listed below, are affected.
