Unlike most career fairs, students were able to get some hands-on experience with the careers they are interested in.

) -Around 1,300 junior and senior high school students have spent two days getting an up-close look at what life after high school could look like at the Florida Department of Transportation’s 4th annual Northwest Florida Construction Career Days.

“We can work on construction equipment, we can go in there and see various different booths that show us how things are built,” said Mark Raab, aviation technology teacher at Booker T Washington High School. “Besides going out there and joining these companies they probably won’t get to do that.” “Someone can tell you what you’ll be doing off a piece of paper but once you’re able to see and actually do it for the first time it really opens those doors,” said Alexander Winkler from Crestview High School.

“Since freshman year I’ve been thinking about doing welding. It helps a lot to show what I’m working towards and if I 100% want to do it which being out here has reassured me this is the route I want to go,” said Tyler Bohlke from Crestview High School.
