The Gaza Strip has effectively been split in half after Israeli forces reached the coastline, the IDF said
The US secretary of state Antony Blinken has called for a humanitarian pause in Gaza while on a diplomatic tour of the region. Speaking in Baghdad, he said regional leaders would 'welcome' a pause in the fighting, but Israel said it needs progress on the release of hostages. The CIA Director, William Burns - a former US ambassador to Jordan - has travelled to Israel for talks, calling for more intelligence sharing to avoid civilian casualties.
Mr Blinken will hold talks in Turkey - his latest stop on the tour. Turkey's relations with Israel have soured amid a rising death toll from the conflict. He visited the West Bank and Iraq on Sunday, discussing efforts to prevent the Gaza conflict from spreading into the wider region. Meanwhile, the White House said Vice-President Kamala Harris will hold talks with unnamed foreign leaders on Monday, pushing to increase aid to civilians in Gaza.
