DH Lawrence’s classic novel Lady Chatterley’s Lover is getting a major new Netflix adaptation starring Jack O’Connell and The Crown’s Emma Corrin – and the new images promise a captivating watch.
screenwriter David Magee will pen the script. Excitingly, the adaptation will be the first film to be produced under the new Sony-Netflix partnership.
Golden Globe winner Corrin is set to star in the lead role of Lady Constance Chatterley, while O’Connell plays her forbidden lover Oliver Mellors.Lady Chatterley’s LoverThe classic period romance was considered scandalous for its explicit descriptions of sex when it was published in Italy in 1928. In fact, the book was banned in the UK when its publishers were
under the Obscene Publications Act. It wasn’t until 1960 that the book was published in the UK in its entirety.The story follows the wealthy and privileged Lady Constance Chatterley, who finds herself trapped in a loveless marriage to Baronet Sir Clifford Chatterley, a wealthy landowner. Seeking companionship, she engages in an affair with a working-class gamekeeper, Oliver Mellors, on their English countryside estate, discovering more desire and intimacy than she thought possible.
After realising that her affair provides her with the love that was missing in her marriage, Lady Chatterley deviates from society’s expectations and follows her heart instead of her head.The cast foralso includes Matthew Duckett as Lady Chatterley’s husband Sir Clifford Chatterley, Joely Richardson as Clifford’s carer Mrs Bolton and Faye Marsay as Lady Chatterley’s sister Hilda.
