Federico Chiesa is on the verge of an £11m move to Liverpool from Juventus
Liverpool are closing in on their second signing of the summer with an £11m deal for Juventus forward Federico Chiesa. The transfer of the Italian international has caught some by surprise because of the low fee involved.
While the drop-off in quality whenever one of the greatest forwards on the planet is sidelined is always expected and accepted, the likes of young Ben Doak or Harvey Elliott stepping in for an absent Salah has always been an uneasy adjustment. He may not be the player he was three years ago but at 26, Slot will back himself to coax Chiesa back into the sort of form that made him a £50m player at the time. Juventus are desperate to fetch a fee for him which has knocked down the price considerably.
It's why judgement should really be reserved on transfer business until much later down the line. We all know what happens when you "win" the transfer window, after all?
