While accepting federal grants in 2021 and 2022, the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District, Anchorage School District, Juneau School District, and Fairbanks North Star Borough School District received approximately $29 million less state funding. The state must now confirm within 30 days an appropriations request has been made; or present a plan to resolve its non-compliance. The consequence of the “high-risk” grantee designation is an additional loss of $425 million in federal funds to the state.
