Almost one in three female surgeons working for the service said they had been sexually assaulted in the last five years
A survey has revealed a shocking culture of sexual abuse experienced by female surgeons working within the NHS.Eleven instances of rape were reported by surgeons who took part in the study, which also found that 29 per cent of women who responded had experienced unwanted physical advances at work, the PA news agency reports.
"[He] just turned round and buried his head right into my breasts and I realised he was wiping his brow on me," she said. "You just freeze right, 'why is his face in my cleavage?'" Consultant surgeon Tamzin Cuming, who chairs the Women in Surgery forum at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, said the report presents 'some of the most appalling facts ever to come out' about the field and 'represents a MeToo moment for surgery.' "The report is measured, its recommendations achievable, but this shouldn’t disguise the anger and frustration felt by many in our profession."
