Former Man Utd defender Rio Ferdinand fell out with his manager during a Champions League tie - and ultimately paid the price
Cristiano Ronaldo spectacularly left the Old Trafford outfit after his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan having criticised Erik ten Hag last year, while Jadon Sancho may find himself out in the cold after his public denouncement of his boss' claims about his recent training levels. It's an unwise move to publicly criticise your manager although plenty of United greats have done it.
"There was phlegm everywhere," Ferdinand told Radio 1 in 2014 of the 2010 incident. "It was against Bayern Munich. I didn't agree with some of his decisions and I was screaming in the tunnel.More information on the incident has emerged in the years since, with Ferdinand spilling the tea during his FIVE show with former teammate Nemanja Vidic earlier this year.
Ferdinand also later revealed Bayern star Mark van Bommel thought he was a "lunatic" after witnessing the argument. Speaking to former teammate Ben Foster on the Fozcast, Ferdinand said: "I remember he made a substitution in the game that I didn't agree with. "Then Vidic on the way home was like, 'Rio, you know, sometimes you have got to pick your argument'."
