A week removed from revealing its cover stars, EA has dropped the first deep-dive gameplay trailer for FIFA 23.
HyperMotion 2 is the proverbial poster child for this year’s soccer sim, with twice the real-world data captured than last year’s debut of the system. Advances to the machine learning algorithm, EA says, has resulted in even more fluid and natural animations. The team captured data from both men’s and women’s games, with a combined total of over 6000 new HyperMotion animations.
Gameplay wise, this has also resulted in a brand new “ultra responsive” dribbling system on new-gen consoles. There’ll also be more variety in player movement, thanks to an improved acceleration and jockeying systems. These should mean that defenders get into position more realistically and offer new defensive options for players. Some players will even have their own unique signature running styles, which will be reflected in the game.
Elsewhere, EA promise redesigned power shots and set pieces, alongside Advanced Impact Physics and net interaction physics. Your AI teammates should also be more aware – and keen to avoid – collisions on the pitch thanks to the improved player awareness features. Of course, the addition of Women’s Club Football is a big part of this year’s game. To that end, EA talk about capturing an entire 11 V 11 women’s game to ensure authenticity remains key. All this real world data will ensure that the women’s game will feel different from the men’s in all the right ways.
