SAN ANTONIO - As we all try to beat the heat this summer, the city is rolling out a new resourceIt shows numbers from March to October in Bexar County , and the dashboard is updated every Wednesday.
Right now it's showing 73 percent of men in the 25 to 44 year old age range are most vulnerable to the heat. “This way it can allow the community members' employers to see that these heat-related illnesses are happening in our community and see who is being impacted.” Firefighters are some of the most vulnerable when it comes to heat-related illnesses. In hot weather the city tries to double up or expand crews so firefighters are able to get the necessary recovery and hydration they need to stay safe.Things like high temperatures, changes in barometric pressure, and intense sunlight, can all trigger symptoms for those who suffer from migraine disorder.
"We actually know that there is a correlation, we don't always fully understand why," said Dr. Rashmi Halker Singh, Neurologist at the Mayo Clinic. "Sunglasses can make a big difference when we're thinking about being exposed to bright lights and that sunlight, all of that can really help."Experts also recommend you keep hydrated, stick to a consistent sleep schedule, and exercise regularly.
