A Filipiniana at the 'Barbie' pink carpet?
We have Fil-Am actress Ana Cruz Kayne to thank for.
Ana, who plays the role of Supreme Court Justice Barbie in the movie, has been paying homage to her Filipino roots at the “Barbie” pink carpet events in Los Angeles in London, wearing modern Filipiniana numbers by fashion designer Dennis Lustico. At the Los Angeles premiere, Ana wore an all-pink balintawak set, featuring an embellished terno top paired with a glamorous floor-length fringe skirt.Sharing photos of Ana, Dennis said the actress "specifically requested to wear something Filipino for the big day."For the movie's European premiere in London meanwhile, Ana donned a nude terno top with slight pops of color through its leaf applique and paired it with mid-length mermaid cut skirt.
“A butterfly in Barbie court,” Dennis wrote on Instagram, which presumably refers to Ana’s butterfly sleeves., Ana said that she felt like she was “honoring my family" and their Filipino heritage through her role in the film.Filipino viewers couldn’t help but gush over the representation, with one user writing, “are those terno sleeves in the @barbiethemovie ?!?”
