Despite the country being prone to natural hazards, such as earthquakes and typhoons, a survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) found that Filipinos’ preparedness against disasters has declined in the past year.

A storm surge caused by super typhoon Yolanda leveled houses in Tacloban City.

In the nationwide survey conducted from Dec. 10 to 14, 2022 with 1,200 respondents, most Filipinos said they are “very prepared” and “somewhat prepared” for a typhoon as strong as Yolanda . Typhoon Yolanda struck the Philippines on Nov. 8, 2013. It has been called the most powerful storm to make landfall in recorded history.
