Eerie throwback photographs show the iconic venue before it was bulldozed
Once upon a time, Wigan Pier would have been packed out on New Year's Eve with ravers from up and down the UK visiting the iconic venue. However as 2022 turns into 2023, there are much different plans for the land that was once home to the famous nightclub.
The club’s popularity peaked in the mid-1990s with the explosion of the house music and rave scene but regeneration of the area led to its demise and it was torn down in 2014. Nine years on from its demolition, work is finally set to begin on plans to redevelop the site and turn it into a wedding venue, gin distillery, microbrewery and food hall. Eight waterside townhomes are also set to be built on the land.An ambitious target of 2019 was set when the plans originally surfaced back in 2018.
