Don't let it ruin a holiday
If you're planning to travel to EU countries like Spain, Greece, France and Italy anytime soon, you'll be subject to new laws.The government have said the new EES is an automated IT system that will register travellers who aren't from an EU country, including the UK. It means anyhow who crosses the border out of the EU or back into it will need to scan their passport and other travel documents at a self-service kiosk before crossing the border.
The European Commission says this will apply to every EU country, except Cyprus and Ireland. It will also apply to Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Liechtenstein, reports Stoke on Trent Live. The system will also be put in place at the Port of Dover and the Eurostar and Eurotunnel terminals in the UK. An agreement is currently in place that means French authorities can operate border checks at these UK departure points.
