Man United transfer target Sofyan Amrabat faces an uncertain future ahead of the transfer window closing next week.
Fiorentina chief Joe Barone has confirmed that the Italian club will not stop Sofyan Amrabat from leaving the club ahead of the window closing next week. The Moroccan has been linked with a move to United as they look to beef up their midfield options ahead of the transfer deadline.
While another midfield signing would definitely help Erik ten Hag's rebuild at Old Trafford, reports in the Italian media suggesting Amrabat is a top target for United are understood to have been overstated. United, who were defeated 2-0 by Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, clearly need to add some more defensive nous to their midfield options to provide both competition and cover for Casemiro. The Brazilian joined United a year ago and is their only out-and-out midfield destroyer. Amrabat, who played a key role in Morocco's fairytale run to the World Cup semi-finals in Qatar last year, is out of contract at Fiorentina next summer, meaning this summer could be their last chance to sell him for a respectable fee. He wants to leave and played no part in their 4-1 win over Genoa on Saturday, failing to step off the bench. "We are always ready for other entries and exits," said Barone, as quoted by Labaro Viola. "If there's someone who isn't happy, we can satisfy him between now and the end of the transfer window." Amrabat, who is considered one of the best holding midfielders in the business, joined Fiorentina in 2020 and helped them reach the final of the Europa Conference League last season. He has made a total of 107 appearances for the club. The midfielder is no stranger to United manager Ten Hag. The duo worked together at FC Utrecht and Amrabat clocked up 50 appearances under the Dutchman's watch, scoring one goal and grabbing 10 assists. Get United transfer updates on WhatsApp!
