Flames tore through the front door of the building in the capital as a police officer and a bystander cleared the building.
A heroic cop and a member of the public risked their lives as a blaze as it tore through an Edinburgh block of flats.
A shock video clip on social media, showed a Police Scotland officer and what is believed to be a bystander trying to clear the building as a fire rips through the main door. Eyewitness Jude Liddell told the Daily Record: "I was getting an Uber home from a night out and we saw the door frame ablaze. It looked as if some homeless person had been sleeping there and it had ignited.
"Once the police arrived and gained entry into the Tennant to the left of the building on fire I aided police in making sure nobody was in the upstairs area above the door."The fire got extremely out of hand even after the police attempted to use their small fire extinguishers and I offered to help use one. The fire brigade finally arrived - around four trucks - and put it out."
