While the hills and yards in Salt Lake being filled with a healthy amount of grass and vegetation is a sign of a good spring, it's also a beacon for wildfires as the valley begins to hit 100 degrees and above.
"The thing that concerns me is what you see here — that's all that dead grass because everything grew like crazy through our beautiful spring weather,” Poulson said."Can you imagine a flame jumping into there?” Poulson said while gesturing to a patch of dry grass. “That would be gone in just seconds.""Essentially, it is easier for our fires to start in our grasses and our cheatgrasses especially,” said Kelly Wickens with the Forest, Fire, and State Lands division.
"We've got the fuel, it's going to dry out, it's going to be hotter than normal, it's going to be dryer than normal, all the way through the summer and into the fall,” Poulson said.
