Firefighters rush to help after 'lightning strike' sets Lancashire house alight during thunderstorms
Firefighters from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service were called to a blaze at a property in Thornton Cleveleys, on Sunday afternoon . Four crews from Bispham, Wesham, St Annes, South Shore responded to the call on Bluebell Close.
Also in attendance was an aerial ladder platform from Blackpool. Pictures shared on social media showed plumes of smoke coming from the roof of the property.One eyewitness wrote: "Lightning struck a house Bluebell Close, Pheasants Wood, Thornton." Another person commented "hope everyone’s ok, that must of been frightening" while another replied "How sad for them we are round the corner & could smell it.
In a statement, LFRS said: "At 16:11 on the 9th of July 2023, four fire engines from Bispham, Wesham, St Annes, South Shore and an aerial ladder platform from Blackpool attended an incident on Bluebell Close, Thornton Cleveleys. The fire involved a domestic property. "Firefighters used four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire, crews were in attendance for one hour."The incident happened as Lancashire was battered by more thunderstorms and heavy rain on Sunday. During torrential rain and storms on Saturday, some roads were flooded forcing motorists to abandon their cars in the water.
The poor conditions are set to continue on Monday with another band of heavy rain hitting the county from around midday. The Met Office forecast shows further thunderstorms are expected from around 7pm.
