A widely scattered shower or storm could cool some towns off, but most stay dry again today
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Montgomery officially notched a high temperature of 101 degrees on Tuesday! Other highs from around the area included upper 90s and lots of triple-digit heat... so do we do it all over again for your Wednesday? The answer for many is yes, but we do expect a few showers and thunderstorms to form during the hottest part of the day. That could be enough to cool, but not all, of our towns offs.
The silver lining is the lower humidity. Yes, there is moisture in the atmosphere, but it’s not overwhelming. That means the air can heat up effectively, and heat index/feels temperatures are likely close to the actual air temperature, which is still hot but not quite *as* dangerous from a heat stroke perspective.
More heat is in the cards over the next couple of weeks. Yes, it is to be expected here in Alabama as June turns into July, but it’s always a good reminder to think about the heat before heading outside! The available data suggest a consistent, long stretch of temperatures in the 94-99 degree range each day, with humidity levels also starting to rise soon.
Common sense heat precautions will be necessary in the weeks to come: drink plenty of water before, during and after outdoor activity all while taking more breaks than usual and try to do your work in the early morning or late afternoon. Scattered showers and storms will flare up each afternoon. No, it won’t rain all day and it won’t rain on everyone, but we’ll at least have a few of those precious, cooling showers and storms floating around the state each afternoon. That’s a good thing - we need the rain!Highs on Saturday and Sunday will likely be in the 90s underneath a mix of sun and clouds.
