Excessive heat warning in effect through 10:00 tonight
Memorial Day will be sizzling hot with temperatures reaching the mid-90s with a heat index 109°-114°.
The NWS continues a Heat Advisory for much of SE Texas but added an Excessive Heat Warning for Harris, Fort Bend, Montgomery, Waller, Washing and Warton Counties through Monday 10 PM. Remember to stay hydrated, take breaks from outside to avoid heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The reason for this oppressive heat is a dome of high pressure over southern Mexico. We’re on the outer edge of this high. This is doing two things. First, it keeps the severe weather north of us and second, it’s giving us a lot of heat. Try to take it easy out there and make sure you drink plenty of water!Beach Safety Reminder:
Galveston will warm to the upper 80s and low 90s but humidity at the peak heating of the day could make it feel like 108°.. If you have plans to flock to the beach be mindful that there are deadly rip currents. The beach flags are in red. If you can’t swim don’t let the water get above your knees. Children should remain at the shoreline. And if you are caught in a rip current, remain calm, and swim parallel to the shore.There is slight relief in the forecast. A front on Tuesday will lower temperatures and bring back rain chances. We’ll also get slightly lower morning temperatures and lower humidity.
