True crime has had a resurgence in popularity, - and if you've already binge-watched your latest find, we have five more for you to check out.
On Friday , Netflix released a new true crime documentary, The Crash, which looks into the true story of 17-year-old Mackenzie Shirilla, who was driving her boyfriend, Dom, and his friend, Davion, home from a graduation party. The car was traveling at 100 miles per hour when it crashed into the side of a brick building, killing both Dom and Davion.
At first, the incident appeared to be a tragic accident, but as police investigated further, questions began to emerge about what really happened. Investigators later discovered that Mackenzie made no attempt to slow down or stop before hitting the wall. As the case unfolded, authorities questioned whether Mackenzie had intentionally killed her boyfriend in order to escape what she believed was a "toxic" relationship.
During the trial, prosecutors focused heavily on what they described as the 17-year-old’s lack of remorse, particularly toward her boyfriend. In 2023, she was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison and will not be eligible for parole until she has served 15 years. While delivering the sentence, the judge referred to Mackenzie as "hell on wheels.

Following a 2020 Tinder romance, Sandy confesses to killing cyclist Tony Parsons and hiding the body on his estate. While engaged, Muirhead acts as a key witness, secretly gathering evidence to help police, including marking the burial site. The series examines the psychological strain on Muirhead as she leads a double life to ensure justice for the victim's family. The McKellar brothers pleaded guilty to charges, including culpable homicide and perverting the course of justice, in 2023.
The series investigates the shocking downfall of the powerful Murdaugh family in South Carolina's Lowcountry. It explores how a 2019 fatal boat crash involving Paul Murdaugh, followed by the murders of Paul and his mother Maggie, exposed a web of corruption, secrets, and high-profile crimes linked to patriarch Alex Murdaugh. On March 2, 2023, former lawyer Alex Murdaugh was found guilty of murdering his wife, Maggie, and son Paul in 2021.
The verdict came just weeks after the true crime series aired on Netflix. However, on May 13 South Carolina’s Supreme Court overturned the murder convictions against Alex Murdaugh, citing “shocking jury interference” by a court clerk who oversaw jurors during the 2023 trial. The three-part Netflix true-crime documentary series looks into the 2015 kidnapping of Denise Huskins from her Vallejo, California, home.
She reappeared 48 hours later, where police accused her and her boyfriend, Aaron Quinn, of staging the kidnapping, labelling it a "real-life Gone Girl" case despite a violent intruder actually being responsible. Made by the same creators of hit documentary The Tinder Swindler, the show highlights how evidence was ignored until another, similar attempted kidnapping led police to the real culprit, Matthew Muller.
José Jurado Montilla is a Spanish serial killer who was first convicted of killing four people in the Málaga region of Spain in the mid-1980s and was sentenced to 123 years in prison. However, he was released after just 28 years because of a new ruling. In 2023, he had grown a presence on TikTok for his travel adventure videos where he also maintained he was innocent.
He befriended 42-year-old Esther Estepa, but her family reported her missing after she hadn't been in contact with her mother. It was months before her bones were found off the side of a highway in 2024. This two-part Spanish documentary looks into Esther's disappearance, and the reality of knowing a TikTok influencer with a dark, violent past.
The documentary unravels one woman's lies as it looks into the 2010 case of Jennifer Pan, who staged a home invasion in Ontario, Canada, that resulted in her mother's death and father's severe injury.
