Those arrested included a prison nursing assistant.
Five people from Nottingham are among a gang of 16 who have played a part in the biggest ever conspiracy to smuggle drugs and weapons into UK prisons. A four-year-long investigation by South Yorkshire Police revealed that people including a prison nursing assistant conspired to smuggle more than £1 million worth of items into HMP Lindholme in Doncaster.
Others involved in the network included five people from Nottingham. The investigation team executed warrants at a number of addresses across the country on December 18, 2019, resulting in five people being arrested the following day. Audrey Needham, 56, of Comfrey Close in Top Valley, was also found to have assisted in the supply of Class B drugs for her son and his partner, Ward. In the following weeks, the five were charged with offences linked to the conspiracy.
