It is a thought that is all well and good, when you know where to go. Well, read on to discover how you can explore a more untouched corner Lancashire, away from the tourist crowds and main roads. We've also included a little place in Cumbria, but we have been conscious to make sure they are easily accessible from the M6 and close to the border.
Nuzzled in the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the valley has strong links to the Royal Family with part of the Duchy of Lancaster Estate located within it. Pop into the Cakery and Bakery cafe for coffee or the long-standing Sue's Cumbria Snack Bar, both on the square.Take in the Beetham Circular walk and visit the hidden Fairy Steps carved into the cliffside, accessed through dense woodland. Sitting above the cute hamlet in Wycoller Country Park, is the infamous 'concrete blob' which is in fact an art sculpture called the 'Atom'. The village has its own tourist information centre inside a converted barn and is atthe heart of a network of walking routes.
Glasson Dock has its own marina, canal locks, light house, bowling green and smokehouse. The shimmering jewel is hidden in plain sight, with a working harbour on the cusp of the Lune Estuary.
