Five sea turtles have now returned home following rehabilitation at the Gulfarium C.A.R.E center.
“This is my favorite day, and our volunteers favorite day. We put so many hard hours into rehabilitating these sea turtles. To get to watch them crawl back into the Gulf of Mexico, it is so rewarding,” Tabitha Siegfried said.
And they had an audience. Dozens of people showed up to cheer them on. And that includes many children who may one day do the important conservation work to keep these turtles and other wildlife safe.“It was really fun because I like animals and they get freed, and they’re all healed up,” Alex Wallace said.
“My friend Harper always says that if you dig a hole, you have to cover it back up because the sea turtles can get stuck,” Zoe Fischer said All of these turtles were rescued after accidentally being hooked at different locations. Thankfully their injuries weren’t bad.“They’re really funny. We find it funny. We always say that they love the free food. We are the in. And they get full. They get fed so much. They don’t want to leave. We treat them too good. But we’re like, you got to go. You have to make babies. You have to save your species,” Siegfried said.
