The UK General Election will take place on July 4
Politicians have been out knocking doors and the UK is gearing up for the 2024 General Election. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced the election would take place on July 4, surprising many who understood it would take place in the autumn.
The punishment for revealing how someone else voted - even accidentally - is a fine of up to £5,000 or six months in prison. However, people are welcome to take photos outside the polling station. Can I discuss political candidates at the polling station? Political discussion is banned inside polling stations. Staff will intervene if they hear any references to candidates or parties.
